Overview

A Foreign national with work experience in Canada as a home child care provider may be able to apply for permanent residence through the Caring for Children Pathway.

Eligibility Requirements

All of the requirements listed below must be met in order to apply through the Caring for Children Pathway.  Furthermore, candidates must also plan to live outside the province of Quebec.

Work experience

All of these requirements must be met to be eligible for the Caring for Children Pathway.

  • At least 24 months of full-time work experience in Canada as a home child care provider in the four years (48 months) before the application is made
  • work experience as a home child care provider must meet the definition in the Canadian National Occupational Classification (NOC) Group 4411
  • Candidate must have cared for children under the age of 18, whether in their own home or in their employer’s home.

Language ability

Candidate must:

  • prove their ability in English or French for speaking, reading, listening and writing
  • include the original language test results when they apply

Education

Candidate must have:

  • completed Canadian post-secondary education credential of at least one year,

    OR

  • completed foreign education credential, and an original Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) by an organization approved by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) to show it is equal to a completed Canadian post-secondary education credential of at least one year.
